The most popular challenge this summer, in addition to trying to fit your umbrella on the beach after 10 am, is to raise the green recycling flag.
There are many municipalities involved along the Spanish coast that have publicly presented the campaign to demonstrate their support and involvement. One of the requirements for achieving this meaningful flag is the collaboration of the city councils, along with other conditions such as the tons of glass collected regarding the target set or the number of participating hotel establishments.
There are only nine flags of Ecovidrio and more than 130 city councils in Catalonia, Comunitat Valenciana, the Balearic Islands, Cantabria, Murcia and Andalusia have joined this campaign to fight climate change and defend and protect our coasts.
There have already been dozens of presentations, in which mayors have set an example by recycling and encouraging the tourist industry and all citizens to deposit glass in the green container, many of them decorated with summer designs. Alicante, Valencia, Altea, Orihuela, Torrevieja, Benidorm, Denia, Alboraya, El Campello, Pobla de Farnals ... and the list continues since everyone believes in an environmentally sustainable city model.
We want to add the Ecovidrio green flag to the blue one: an award that during these summer months is more important than ever, since due to tourism and increased consumption, during this period a third of all the waste recovered per year is recycled.
Additionally, beach bars and restaurants are responsible for 52% of the glass container waste generated, making it a key sector in the transition to a circular economy model.
Because, believe it or not, glass is recycled entirely and infinitely without losing its properties!
So, we’ve already let you know. This summer recycle all the glass you consume and make your town raise the green flag.
